You should look out for the following features in a dishwasher:

• Rating: Each of the dishwashers available in the market is rated on three counts- Energy, washing performance and drying performance. The rating is given from A to G. A being the best, and G the worst. Therefore, look for ratings before you decide on a brand or a model. A dishwasher with A rating on all the three counts is considered the best.
• Water consumption: Certain dishwashers consume less water as compared to the others. If a dishwasher is equipped with alternate spray cycle, then it will consume lesser water and will enable you to save on the utility bills.
• Detergent usage: Certain dishwashers use the detergents efficiently and help you to save money.
